It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Christopher Fletcher, one of the world's great surgical pathologists, who passed away peacefully, on July 28, 2024, at the age of 66.

Born in Huddersfield, England on March 13, 1958, he earned his medical degrees from St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School in London in 1981. He completed his residency in Histopathology at St. Thomas's Hospital and a research fellowship which earned him a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of London in 1991. His subsequent career was unmatched in its contributions to the field of oncologic pathology. His most enduring contribution is unquestionably his devotion to the learners of pathology and other clinicians who benefited from his teaching, mentorship, and overwhelming generosity.

In 1995, Dr. Fletcher was recruited to Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. In addition to his appointment as Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, he served as Director of Surgical Pathology and Vice-Chair for Anatomic Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He also served as Chief of Onco-Pathology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
In 1995, Dr. Fletcher was recruited to Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Dr. Fletcher made extensive contributions to the medical literature with nearly 600 original articles and over 150 books, book chapters and review articles. He has also held numerous leadership roles within national and international pathology societies, including as President of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), a Division of the International Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Fletcher is survived by his beloved partner Dr. Janina Longtine, and by his three daughters, his son-in-law, his two step-children and his five grandchildren.
