INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF PATHOLOGY MARCH 2024

The 3rd African Assembly of the IAP 

The 3rd African assembly and 14th Annual General meeting and Scientific Conference of the West Africa Division of the International Academy of Pathology took place November 29-December 1, 2023 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria. 

The theme of the conference was Evolutionary Trends in Modern Pathology Practice with the Role of Pathology in Personalized Cancer Care, the value of artificial intelligence in anatomical pathology practice, multi-specialization in pathology practice in low and medium income settings. Biorisk Management is the era of emerging and re-emerging infections and finance management dexterity in pathology in low income settings as sub themes.


Plenary Speakers included 


Professor Emeritus Martin Hale MD, the current president of the international academy of pathology delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony. The Nigeria’s Honorable Minister of Health, Professor Muhammed Ali Pate CON, was the Special Guest of Honor and was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Prof JO Ogunbiyi a past president of WADIAP chaired the occasion. Ten Residents were sponsored by WADIAP courtesy of the education committee/IAP to attend the meeting where they all made  poster presentations .

A joint IAP African assembly and WADIAP AGM took place on the last day of the conference which was joined by Prof. Martin Hale, the IAP President and Prof Ray Mac Mahon , the IAP Secretary General. The meeting deliberated on various issues including the preparation of the draft constitution of the African Assembly and the IAP 2024 congress coming up in Cancun, Mexico end of the year. An election also took place where new members of executive of WADIAP were elected.

The EADIAP was given the hosting right for the next meeting of the African Assembly in 2025

The conference ended with a very successful dinner hosted by the local organizing committee headed by Prof. Saad Ahmed 





CONCLUSION 

In conclusion, the joint meeting was very successful thanks to the superb organize capability of the LOC.

I also wish to thank the Education Committee, IAP secretariat, African Assembly, WADIAP, the faculty and numerous organizations who contributed in one way or the other in making the conference a success

15TH EADIAP-BRITISH SCHOOL OF PATHOLOGY


The 15th EADIAP/BDIAP school of Pathology meeting took place In Kipo Hotel, Arusha, Tanzania Feb 22-23, 2024. 

The theme of the meeting was histopathology of infectious disease of the GI and Liver. The faculty comprises Prof. Sebastian Lucas, Prof. Alberto Qualiglia and Dr. Ula Mahudera. 

Over 15 participants attended the 2-day meeting with delegates coming From Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana and Esiwatiria.

The meeting ended with an excursion to Napuru falls.
