Report on the XXXIV International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP)
Sydney Australia, 11-15 October 2022.

The Australasian Division of the Academy successfully hosted the XXXIV International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology from 11-15 October 2022 in our 50th year as an organization.
The program included a 2 day virtual program as well as a 3 day in person program. More than 1300 delegates had the opportunity to listen to more than 417 speakers from across the globe discuss practical problems, new innovations and the latest updates across the breadth and depth of surgical pathology.
Our key note speakers included Prof Elizabeth Murchison from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, Prof Brain Schmidt from the Australian national University, Australia, Professor Martin Hale, from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, Professor Jason Hornick from Harvard Medical School, USA and Professor Tan Puay Hoon from Singapore General Hospital, Singapore
The Congress supported 77 bursaries from 29 countries.

The Congress opening ceremony for the in person program included a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony, An ancient and contemporary custom among some Aboriginal Australians believed to have both spiritual and physical cleansing properties, as well as the ability to ward off bad spirits.

The Friday evening networking cocktail function “Canapes and Koalas”, sponsored by Biocare Medical, was a great success.
